Check out our dinner photographs on our Facebook Page, on the link to the right!
So, I have been remiss in updating this blog (I even have some really nice photos from our dinner that I haven’t uploaded) and I have really been at a loss about what to say, especially considering all of the circus activity in Albany these past several weeks. One of our committee members sent an email with the title as noted above, and indicated that it was embarrassing to be a Democrat right now with the likes of Senator Espada in Albany. Well, now I know how Republicans feel about G.W. (ahem)
I am finding life in the space between how the world really is and, what I think it should be, very difficult these days. How do we paint the picture of political leadership in vivid colors for all to embrace? How do we get people to care, or listen, when our elected officials prefer swing sets, jungle gyms, and slides to committee assignments, draft resolutions, and lobby days?
So, here we are. I decided that I need to be loud and clear about what it really means to be a Democrat. I know that I want equal and just opportunity for everyone, that all of us deserve good jobs, excellent educations, a thriving economy and equal protection under the law. We must rise above those who break the law, have poor ethical standards, or are just plain mean. It saddens me that we have some who are part of our party who engage in questionable behaviors, but I know we can continue to stand up for the principals we believe in. And most of all, we can look forward to Primary Day in 2010 in the 33rd Senate District of the State of New York! Good Riddance, Senator Espada (and Diaz, and Monserrate)
I love Albany………….
I love flying into the Albany Airport coming up the Hudson and seeing the skyline with the Egg, the Plaza and the Capitol……….well, maybe not the Capitol.
Yes folks, this morning we made national news. NPR reported that the New York State Senate has disintegrated into a playground. The Republicans are claiming the majority after a questionable power grabbing ploy. The Democrats are going to court. Meanwhile, we have many important issues on the table to finish up the session.
Governor Paterson was quoted as saying “This is humilating, even by New York State standards”
New York State Government is NOT a joke, it’s not a circus, although there was someone at the Capitol yesterday dressed as a clown. We need to work very hard to elect Democrats who will adhere to the highest standards of ethics and responsibility!
Please call or email Senator Bonacic and express your outrage! Tell him to stop being part of his conference’s power-grabbing games and get some work done!
