Our dysfunctional family
Issues, Our Elected Reps July 27th. 2009, 5:29pmSo, I have been remiss in updating this blog (I even have some really nice photos from our dinner that I haven’t uploaded) and I have really been at a loss about what to say, especially considering all of the circus activity in Albany these past several weeks. One of our committee members sent an email with the title as noted above, and indicated that it was embarrassing to be a Democrat right now with the likes of Senator Espada in Albany. Well, now I know how Republicans feel about G.W. (ahem)
I am finding life in the space between how the world really is and, what I think it should be, very difficult these days. How do we paint the picture of political leadership in vivid colors for all to embrace? How do we get people to care, or listen, when our elected officials prefer swing sets, jungle gyms, and slides to committee assignments, draft resolutions, and lobby days?
So, here we are. I decided that I need to be loud and clear about what it really means to be a Democrat. I know that I want equal and just opportunity for everyone, that all of us deserve good jobs, excellent educations, a thriving economy and equal protection under the law. We must rise above those who break the law, have poor ethical standards, or are just plain mean. It saddens me that we have some who are part of our party who engage in questionable behaviors, but I know we can continue to stand up for the principals we believe in. And most of all, we can look forward to Primary Day in 2010 in the 33rd Senate District of the State of New York! Good Riddance, Senator Espada (and Diaz, and Monserrate)
